Just Because Men Aren’t Asked This Question Doesn’t Mean Women Shouldn’t Answer It | Linkedin

That there are countless column inches dedicated to the issue of women having it all and barely a word in the reverse is as telling as anything in this realm. For women having it all, shorthand for having a career and a family, is something of a mythical work in progress that relies on having a mixture of the right partner, an enlightened employer and the right support network. For men, having a family and a career is simply life. In that light questions to female leaders along these lines are frustrating. Earlier this year Tracey Spicer wrote a fantastic piece pleading with journalists to stop asking women how they do it. Last week, speaking at a My Agenda event in Sydney , Microsoft Australias managing director Pip Marlow was frank that always being asked how she juggled her career and her family was frustrating considering her male peers were never asked that question. But she said she came to recognise another factor at play.

Great Tips About Leadership That Anyone Can Use

Knowing what it takes to be a good leader is very important, and this includes knowing things that don’t work well. Being a leader requires making hard decisions. This is why you should take this advice into consideration to learn what goes into being a great leader.

All good leaders look towards the future and focus on it. You must always see a long way down the road and plan with that vision in mind. You’re not psychic, but you can be intuitive. Keep asking yourself where you’ll be six months from now, or even a year, then you can plan for it.

Keep your morals in mind. Make sure you will be able to live with your decisions. Do not make a decision you’ll later regret. Some may disagree with you, but you should always do what you think is right.

Always prepare thoroughly before meeting with your team members. Always consider the questions that might be asked. Be sure you are considerate and think of good answers pertaining to their questions. Your team is going to have more respect for you if you know the answers to their questions. Also, you’ll be saving time.

Think synergy as often as you can. Know clearly what your personal goals are. You should also have a clear idea of your business goals. Things are best when there is alignment and overlap between your personal goals and your organization’s ideals. It’s important to have the ability to work on goals simultaneously. If that’s impossible, over time you may lose your drive for the business.
You must be aware of what you are and are not good at to make the most of your leadership skills. If you are too sure of yourself, then chances are you will eventually fail. Pay attention to areas where you can enhance your leadership skills.

Learn how to write effectively. There’s more to leadership than vision and poise. It has to do with how good you are with words. Writing with bad grammar and spelling errors will make it difficult for others to look at you as a strong leader. Work hard to become a great writer.

It is important to be able to communicate well with your team. Verify with every employee that they have received the right information and have the right goals in mind. Check in on your team to make sure things are going smoothly.

Communicate openly with your team. Everyone should know about the general direction you are taking and be aware of changes. When you fail to communication, it can lead to an unproductive team. Failure to communicate will also make you appear incompetent.

Always show confidence and sincerity with everyone that you work with. However, remember that confidence does not mean arrogance. Nobody likes arrogance. Sincerity will be the bricks with which you build your edifice of leadership. However, insincerity will make the workplace a much more difficult place to lead.

Being a leader can be a difficult, but rewarding experience. You improve the lives of others, so make as much of an impact as you can. A lot of people need leaders, and everyone is capable of being a leader in someone’s life. Recognize that this role is important.
